Job Summary

Within the unit of Student Affairs, the Writing Centre teaches graduate and undergraduate students to express their thoughts, knowledge, and learning through academic writing and other forms of communication. It further supports students in developing their academic success skills including critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which in turn support the Dalhousie Student Affairs outcomes of sense of belonging and self-efficacy, as well as tying into institutional goals related to retention. The Centre, therefore, helps students to be more successful at university and in their careers. Reporting to the Associate Director Student Academic Success, the Writing and Academic Support Advisor uses a student-centered, strengths-based approach to support student academic engagement, self-efficacy, and success by teaching students writing and academic success skills in one-on-one sessions, outreach, and supplemental classes.
