Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview

An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers veterinary students hands‑on clinical experience, allowing them to observe and assist in day‑to‑day operations under the supervision of Associate Veterinarians.

Internship durations vary between two and eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules.

All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations
• Create treatment plans, order diagnostics, and provide dentistry services
• Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures
• Manage medical care of patients in collaboration with the medical team
• Practice communication skills with staff and clients
• Participate in team meetings and patient case presentations
