Veterinary Extern - General Practice

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice and gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Baywood Animal Hospital is a small animal general practice located in Midhurst, ON.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting surgical procedures, and managing patients medically. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, externs will have the opportunity to practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Veterinary students in their fourth or clinical year are encouraged to apply.
