Tree Bylaw Technician

Overview

The position is part of the Plan Checking section within the Building Division. This is specialized technical, inspectional, and regulatory office and field work with responsibility for reviewing proposed plans; conducting site inspections to ensure tree replacement; reviewing tree cutting permit applications and Arborist reports; approves or denies the application based on the Burnaby Tree Bylaw and accepted arboricultural techniques; reviewing tree retention plans; establishing requirements for tree replacement; and enforcing the provisions of the Burnaby Tree Bylaw. The incumbent may recommend legal action, gather evidence, submit supporting documentation to superiors or the City Solicitor, issue bylaw notices, attend court or adjudication hearings and act as a witness as required; exercises considerable independence of judgment and action within established policies and procedures.
