Record proceedings: Stenographers record statements from judges, lawyers, and witnesses in real time Create transcripts: Stenographers transcribe recordings into written documents Maintain records: Stenographers keep lists of officers, meetings, and case progress Provide support: Stenographers assist legal personnel by keeping a record of proceedings and referring to it as needed Certify documents: Some stenographers are certified as notaries public, allowing them to verify the authenticity of documents Transcribe for the deaf and hard of hearing: Stenographers may transcribe dialogue from movies and television programs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing
