Context And Mission



The BSC participates in a strategic collaboration with AMD focused on accelerated computing for population-scale pangenomics and medical imaging. The project explores heterogeneous acceleration strategies for computationally intensive biomedical workloads, including GPU-accelerated sequence-to-graph alignment for pangenome analysis, FPGA-based acceleration of genomic sequence alignment on cache-coherent MPSoC platforms, and high-performance GPU processing of hyperspectral imaging for brain tumor classification. Our mission is to design, optimize, and evaluate software-hardware co-designed solutions that improve performance, scalability, and energy efficiency across emerging genomics and medical imaging pipelines.
