Overview
Conservation in Sarawak involves diverse land uses governed by multiple legislative and certification frameworks, with Permanent Forest Estates covering nearly half of the state. Under WWF-Malaysia’s Sarawak Conservation Programme (SCP) Phase 4 (FY26–FY31), the Forests and Forest Systems (FFS) component supports long‑term forest integrity, climate resilience, and biodiversity conservation, in line with the State’s commitment to maintain at least 7 million hectares of forest cover. High Conservation Values (HCVs)—areas of significant biological, ecological, social, or cultural importance—are central to this effort and are required under forest certification for Forest Management Units (FMUs) as well as relevant to plantations and other land developments.
