Medical Technologist

The Medical Technologist performs patient/unit blood compatibility testing and issues compatible blood products if required. Independently operate high-complexity laboratory equipment according to department needs. Conduct proper patient identification (using 2 identifiers) and explain the methods of procedures, including special collection instructions, to obtain the best possible laboratory results. Coverage is required in specimen processing, hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, basic microbiology, and the blood bank. Perform phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture and capillary collections, on patients of all age groups. Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and standard laboratory protocols.
