Overview
The Indigenous Wellness Coordinator (IWC) supports Indigenous patients and families by honoring their strengths while they receive care in the hospital setting. The IWC builds safety, trust and belonging through presence, listening and relationship building, and helps navigate the healthcare system. The IWC works collaboratively with healthcare teams to support culturally safe care and acts as a bridge between Indigenous patients, families and Western healthcare.
Responsibilities
- Support healthcare navigation for Indigenous patients and families.
- Facilitate access to cultural practices and end‑of‑life care.
- Act as a liaison between patients, families and care teams.
