General Surgeon

Job Summary

Reporting to the Head of the Local General Surgery Division and the Medical Director for the sector, the general surgeon treats patients of all ages with various undifferentiated and often complex problems of the digestive tube, liver, pancreas, spleen, lymph nodes, breasts, adrenal glands, thyroid, abdominal wall and skin.

The general surgeon is often the first point of contact for patients receiving a cancer diagnosis, irrespective of stage. The general surgeon also participates in managing patients who are in critical condition or who have traumatic lesions.

The general surgeon evaluates urgent and non‑urgent clinical situations, makes diagnoses and determines treatment options. The general surgeon manages patients' perioperative care.
