One of Pharmac's core functions is to fund medicines for all New Zealanders. There are situations where individuals are in need of a medicine that is not funded by Pharmac (on the 'Schedule') and would like Pharmac to consider funding this medicine. Each application for exceptional circumstances funding requires special consideration - the role of the Exceptions team is to manage these funding applications.

Exceptions Advisors assess individual funding applications received through our Exceptional Circumstances Framework. This includes critically appraising a wide range of information for each application, seeking clinical advice as needed, and preparing information for decision makers.
