Emergency Medical Technician

The EMT responds to emergency and nonemergency medical calls and provides basic-level life support to patients in the pre-hospital setting. Work involves operating a mobile medical unit as an attendant or driver, performing necessary rescue work in accordance with established protocols for basic life support; assessing scene for safety; evaluating conditions of patients, gathering pertinent information, including patient's medications, allergies, medical history, etc., and determining proper treatment; administering necessary emergency medical care, monitoring vital signs and transporting sick or sick persons to the closest appropriate medical facility. The EMT must exercise considerable independent judgment in evaluating patients and ensuring that quality emergency patient care standards are in place.
