DECKHAND

The opportunity

This position is a Training/Development sponsorship opportunity for prospective employees that reside on POA to obtain their Transport Canada issued STCW and Proficiency in Survival Craft certifications to qualify for employment as a Deckhand. The successful applicant will hold residence on Denman Island and upon successful completion of MED training will be willing and able to be scheduled for casual work assignments as required in the role of Deckhand.

Reporting to the Chief Officer / Mate, Deckhands are responsible for: 

  • Directing vehicle and foot passenger traffic on the vessel, and to and from shore to the vessel.
  • Communicating in person and or by radio with ships’ officers and ticketing staff
  • Checking propane tanks are shut off, and tagged
  • Securing car decks and foot passenger gates prior to departure
