In the context of ongoing transformations of wireless technologies, the laboratory LS2PR investigates innovative network topologies and digital signal processing schemes.
On the one hand, novel network topologies based on distributed MIMO, formerly referred to as cell-free massive MIMO aim to provide spatially homogeneous capacity compared with traditional architectures; however, it also introduces significant challenges, such as computationally- and energy-efficient precoding schemes and synchronization of radio access points (APs). On the other hand, the laboratory develops dedicated waveforms targeting spectrum bands above 140 GHz. These frequency ranges are envisioned for very high-data-rate point-to-point links (x-haul) and/or joint communication and sensing applications.
